Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care Through the VA

At Adultcare Assistance Homecare, we are proud to serve the men and women who have served our country.

If you or your loved one is a Veteran enrolled in VA healthcare, you may qualify for Homemaker and Home Health Aide services through the VA. These services are designed to help Veterans remain safely and comfortably in their own homes while receiving assistance with daily activities.

Our caregivers work in partnership with the VA to provide compassionate, professional in-home support tailored to each Veteran’s needs.

What Is Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care?

Homemaker and Home Health Aide care is a VA benefit that provides trained caregivers to assist Veterans in their homes with personal care and daily living tasks.

According to the VA, a Homemaker or Home Health Aide is a trained professional who helps Veterans take care of themselves and their daily activities. They are not nurses, but they are supervised by a registered nurse who helps assess the Veteran’s needs and plan appropriate care.

This program is intended for Veterans who:

  • Need assistance with activities of daily living
  • Require case management or skilled oversight
  • Are socially isolated
  • Have a caregiver who is experiencing burden
  • Want to avoid or delay nursing home placement

These services can also be used as part of an alternative to nursing home care and to provide respite for family caregivers.

What Services Can Veterans Receive?

Services are based on each Veteran’s assessed needs and are coordinated through the VA social work team.

Examples of assistance may include:

  • Bathing and personal hygiene
  • Dressing and grooming
  • Toileting assistance
  • Mobility and transfers
  • Meal preparation and feeding support
  • Transportation to appointments
  • Light housekeeping
  • Companionship

The VA determines how often services are provided. An aide may visit several times per week or on a more limited schedule depending on need.

You can continue receiving services for as long as extra help is needed with daily activities.

Who Is Eligible?

Homemaker and Home Health Aide services are part of the Veterans Health Administration Standard Medical Benefits Package. All enrolled Veterans are eligible if they meet the clinical need for the service.

A copay may apply depending on service-connected disability status.

The best first step is speaking with a VA social worker, who can evaluate needs and determine eligibility.

How Adultcare Assistance Supports Veterans

Adultcare Assistance is contracted to provide in-home support services in partnership with the VA. Our caregivers are carefully screened, trained, and matched with each client to ensure comfort, safety, and continuity of care.

We understand that Veterans deserve dignity, respect, and dependable support. Our goal is to help each Veteran remain independent in the home they love for as long as possible.

Whether services are short term after a hospitalization or ongoing for chronic conditions, we work closely with the VA care team and family members to ensure a smooth, supportive experience.

Helping Caregivers Too

Caring for a Veteran can be physically and emotionally demanding. The VA offers tools such as a Caregiver Self-Assessment and decision aids to help families determine the right level of support.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, you are not alone. VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide services can provide meaningful relief while ensuring your loved one receives quality care.
